Paris Metro Pricing

چکیده

The need for differentiated levels of Quality of Service in the Internet has motivated the development of several QoS mechanisms. This paper describes Paris Metro Pricing (PMP), the simplest differentiated services solution, proposed by Odlyzko [1]. In PMP, the service differentiation would result implicitly from dividing the network into several logically separate best-effort channels with different usage prices. Channels with higher prices would attract less traffic, and hence provide better service. In addition to giving an overview of the PMP proposal itself, this paper addresses its feasibility in real markets with reference to some game theoretical studies.

Paris Metro Pricing: The minimalist di erentiated services solution

Di erentiated services for the Internet are undergoing intensive development. It is widely accepted that they will require usage sensitive pricing. The Paris Metro Pricing (PMP) proposal is to rely on pricing alone to provide di erentiated services. PMP is the simplest di erentiated services system in terms of complexity.

A mathematical model of the Paris Metro Pricing scheme for charging packet networks

Pricing has become one of the main challenges of the networking community and is receiving a great deal of interest in the literature. In this paper, we analyze the so-called Paris Metro Pricing scheme which separates the network into different and independent subnetworks, each behaving equivalently, except that they charge their customers at different rates. In our model, each subnetwork is re...

DiffServ node with join minimum cost queue policy and multiclass traffic

DiffServ, the vehicle for providing relative QoS in the Internet is also easily amenable to simple and effective pricing mechanisms. By pricing access to a relative QoS, we can model a DiffServ node as a ‘Join Minimum Cost Queue’ in which an arriving customer (packet or connection) determines the relative cost as a function of the congestion in the different queues and their access prices and d...

A Colored Petri Net Model for the France Paris Metro System

This paper describes how colored Petri nets can be used for modeling the Paris underground Metro system. This is one of the most complex metro systems in the world. In this paper, the metro system is analyzed and described. The method of analysis is outlined. A working model for three of the major lines was constructed using CPNs. The results and other issues that have to be tackled are explain...
